Peter Loidl, Managing Director of Energji Ashta, welcomed together with the team of HPP Ashta the Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, his wife Doris Schmidauer, the Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Martha Schultz, the Austrian Ambassador to Albania, Christian Steiner and the other members of the delegation and guided them through the power plant: Albania is rich in the natural resources of water, wind and sun, which can be used to generate electricity in an environmentally friendly manner. The Ashta hydroelectric power plant generates around 240 million kWh of electricity annually, which means that 100,000 Albanian households can be supplied with renewable electricity from clean hydropower and energy imports can be reduced,” Peter Loidl said.
“VERBUND and EVN have successfully exported Austrian know-how and technology abroad“, president Van der Bellen commented in the performance of the two Austrian companies in Albania. He expressed his hope that Austria and Albania will continue to work together in the field of renewable energy and assured Austria’s support for Albania’s efforts towards a sustainable future: “Climate protection and economic development go hand in hand.”
